George Zimmerman/ safety tips/ cannibal cop

Jul. 29 George Zimmerman: This was in the news.  He was the neighborhood watch guy, and he shot and killed an unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.  I know this happened in 2012, and I was watching it recently on 20/20.  A year ago, all I remembered was that the movie The Watch had to change their title to it instead of The Neighborhood Watch.  Here's the movie:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1298649/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

He is not guilty.  Beyonce holds one moment of silence for Trayvon Martin at her concert.  I read in 24 news that Zimmerman helped rescue a family from a car when it got into an accident.

Mike Allen: He is the Fort McMurray Tory MLA who was arrested for hiring a prostitute.  I was kind of "eh" with the news.  Oh, look another politician in a sex scandal.  I already heard that one with Eliot Spitzer.  Allen said he was "lonely" because his marriage ended, and his other long-term relationship ended months ago.  He did say: "It's not an excuse."

I have to bring up the Dateline: To Catch a Predator ep with the 35 yr old guy who was going to date a 12 yr old girl because he was "lonely."  When I saw Dateline, I was like: "Hire a prostitute."  Mike Allen is one step above this 35 yr old guy.

Royal baby: I was watching CNN and I saw William and Kate with their new baby.  They were smiling and waving at the cameras. They looked so happy.

Jul. 30 Anthony Weiner: Or should I say Carlos Danger?  lol.  He's sexting again, but with a different name.

Aug. 4 Safety tips: I cut this article from the Edmonton Journal on
Nov. 3, 2012.  It's from Post Media News that wrote the article "Keep alert for signs of burglary."

"Security expert Frank Fourchalk says there are a few tips to keep you safe if burglars target your apartment.

-Do not enter your apartment if you find the door unlocked.  Get a friend or police to accompany you inside.

-If the door or lock shows signs of tampering, call 911 and do not enter until the police arrive.

-If you find masking tape over the door viewer across the hall from your place, do no enter.  Crooks like to blot
out the door viewer across from the apartment they are breaking into.  This prevents a neighbor from witnessing the break in."

Jack Unterweger: I was reading "Being eclectic is being John Malkovich" by Johanna Schneller in the Globe and
Mail on May 25, 2013.  Here's an excerpt:

"The true story of Jack Unterweger, an Austrian novelist, playwright, theatre director, poet, and journalist, who
was also a serial killer.  After he was sentenced to life for murder in 1974, Unterweger's writings from prison were so popular that 700 intellectuals petitioned for his release.  When they succeeded, he traveled the world as a journalist and lecturer, while continuing to commit murders in Graz, Prague and Los Angeles.Imprisoned again in 1994, he
committed suicide in his cell."

My opinion: I found that so disturbing, like why would anyone want to release  a convicted serial killer?

Autism:
I cut out this article from the Edmonton Journal on Jan. 26, 2007.  It's called "No two cases of autism are alike" by Shelley Boettcher.  She profiles Sarah Ondrich who has an 8 yr old son named Geoffrey who's autistic. The psychologist Kimberley Ward at the Society for Treatment of Autism in Calgary said:

"Some people have suggested we're looking for a single cause, but maybe that's not the right approach.  Kids with
autism are so different.   Maybe there are different causes."

Geoffrey's voice is garbled and doesn't always look at you when he talks to you.  Sarah says: "He smiles all the time.
He's a very sweet boy.  I don't know if he will ever be better, but my job is to help him down that road."

Drunk driving: I found this on Yahoo: "A 10 yr old boy calls Police on Father driving drunk."   The boy and his 12 yr
old sister were passengers as his dad Owen Gilman was driving the car.  When I first read the headline, I was thinking along the lines that it's the boy who told his dad not to drive drunk, got into his car anyway, and the boy calls 911 from home.  An accident did occur, but there were no life- threatening injuries.

Aug. 5 Cannibal cop: I was reading "NY 'cannibal cop' convicted of grisly plot" from 24 news.  It was on
Mar. 13, 2013.  Gilberto Valle, 28 was found guilty of on "improperly accessing a law enforcement database to gather personal information about potential targets, including his now estranged wife."  He was going to kidnap, cook, and eat the women from what he wrote online.

Valle's attorney Julia Gatto says: "This is a dangerous prosecution when we start opening up our minds and
prosecuting what's inside our brains and not in the real work.  We totally believe the govt. did not prove their case and the jury couldn't get past the thoughts."

U.S. attorney Preet Bharara says: "The internet is a forum for the free exchange of ideas, but it does not confer immunity for plotting crimes and taking steps to carry out those crimes."

Real Fagin: On
Mar. 26, 2013, I found this National Post article "Alleged 'Fagin' forces young girls to steal" by Henry Samuel.  The 'Fagin' was running this "Dickensian gang" with 500 young girls who had to steal $400 a day from tourists.  His name is Fehim Hamidovic, 60 and he got girls as young as 12 to steal for him.  The ring was dismantled in 2010, and was responsible for 75% of all thefts in the Paris Metro.

He's being charged for "human trafficking, criminal association and forcing minors to commit crimes, which
carry a maximum prison term."  The girls were threatened to be beaten or raped if they didn't steal enough.

Horoscopes: I clipped out this article from the National Post on
Jul. 10, 2010.  They got this info from Andrew Sullivan's blog on The Atlantic.  The Forer Effect was created by psychologist Bertram R. Forer who did a 1948 experiment this personality- type quiz.  After the quiz, he gave this description to them from a newspaper horoscope with things like: "You have a need for other people to like and admire you, and yet you tend to be critical of yourself.  "85% of his subjects believed it was specifically describing them."

David McRaney writes on the site "You Are Not So Smart: A Celebration of Self Delusion" that you might as well
read all the signs: "If a statement is ambiguous and you think it addresses you directly, you will boil away the ambiguity by finding ways to match the information up with your own traits."

Interesting.  I still keep reading my horoscopes.  lol.  Well, they sometimes say inspiring things and then I put it in my
inspirational quotes collection.
